With eyes firmly on a younger demographic, it also explains why Nintendo isn’t following a freemium business model for Super Mario Run. “So, similarly with Mario, what we’re looking at is simple game play, one-handed gameplay; shorter play time, playing in shorter bursts; and then really bringing the joy of Mario to that much larger audience”. So there seems to be plenty of playability to Super Mario Run! Miyamoto cited the success of Pokémon Go as validation of this smartphone-centric approach. “More details will be disclosed at a later date”, said the firm.

Miyamoto created the famous plumber in 1981 as the protagonist of Donkey Kong, and who later embarked on his own adventures in the Super Mario Bros. series which in 35 years have become the flagship of the Nintendo brand. It’s not just any title either, with legendary game maker Shigeru Miyamoto himself coming on stage to announce Super Mario Run. With its new iOS Mario game – which will eventually make it to Android – Nintendo is also admitting that most kids’ first interaction with technology is no longer with one of the company’s consoles, but the smartphone or tablet of a parent.

Nintendo President, Tatsumi Kimishima, said the official partnership consists of five games produced by Nintendo Dena – a Japanese developer of mobile games. When asked about will there be 3D Mario games for the smartphone, he said that 3D Mario games will primarily be released for Ninitendo 3DS.

The Verge reported that one-time fee for downloading the Super Mario Run game app in iOS has an advantage to the players compare to the Pokemon GO that has a lot of in-app purchases to note.
