Super Mario steals the show at the Closing Ceremony

We repeat: Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe made a guest appearance at the Closing Ceremony of the Rio Olympics by emerging from a Green Warp Pipe dressed as Mario. And if this is anything to go by, Tokyo is going to vomit rainbows of joy onto everyone and it’s going to be magical.

If this is any indication, the 2020 Japan Olympic Games are going to be an excellent celebration of the country’s contribution to the arts, including Mario and other iconic video game characters.

Before he emerged a short video played showing Mr Abe in Japan, concerned about not getting to Rio in time. Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe gave us a sneak peek of what’s to come in 2020 on August 21, when he appeared at the Rio closing ceremony dressed up as Super Mario. Yes, Super Mario will be at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, and fans are seriously pumped. He transforms into Mario, who gets into a pipe provided by Doraemon that drills through the earth to Brazil.

Japan, roughly 11,500 miles from Rio de Janeiro, will be home to the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

Instead of Mario appearing, Abe rose up from the tube, holding a red ball and a red hat as the crowd roared its approval. Japan brought the awe, and they did it with the help of Super Mario.
