Superintendent Responds to Dover-Sherborn Named Top School

One Central New York high school made Newsweek’s 2015 “Beating the Odds” list, which lists the top 500 high schools with low-income students, according to the magazine.

BHS was credited with 76.7 percent in college readiness and 91.8 percent in the college bound category.

To compile the top 500 list, Newsweek partnered with statistical survey research corporation Westat to create a three-step procedure comprised of a shortlist analysis, ranking analysis, and equity (Gold Star) analysis.

At Gatlinburg-Pittman, despite more than half – 54 percent – of students in poverty, the graduation rate was 100 percent, with 97 percent of graduates college-bound.

He said while Northview takes pride in preparing students for college, he also believes that schools should help prepare students for other career paths.

Lambert is at least the third Forsyth County high school to make Newsweek’s rankings over the years, joining West (in 2013) and South Forsyth (2006-12).

The Chandler school earned the area’s best ranking, coming in at No. 166. The college readiness rate is an 82 out of 100. The average SAT score is 1481, and the ACT score average is listed at 18.5.

The highest ranked Colorado school is Colorado Early College Fort Collins, which was ranked No. 66 nationally.

Hume-Fogg High Academic Magnet, Fred J. Page, Collierville High and Hollis F. Price Middle College, all located in Tennessee, are also on the list. The leader on the list is Success Academy in Cedar City, Utah.

Newton North Near Tops of Best High Schools List
