Superior Kmart to Close in April

According to information on Kmart’s website, the closest Kmart stores are in Superior and Medford Wis., and Duluth. Jockheck says the decision was one made by Kmart themselves. Jockheck says that Kmart has stipulations on lay away so customers will need to get in and retrieve their items. The Herald Journal also learned through sources at The Idaho State Journal the Kmart in Pocatello is closing, too.

The Terre Haute location has 62 employees.

The Kmart store at 2240 N. Tyler Street in Topeka will close to the public in mid-April.

The release, which was from Sears Corporate Communications Director Howard Riefs, stated that the closures are part of a plan to cut costs and re-focus the company’s investments. A liquidation sale for the store, at 2240 N. Tyler St., will begin on January 24th.

Customers with layaway contracts have two options, the first is to pay off the contract early or transfer their layaway contract to a neighboring store or online. Riefs said the local Kmart rented the space, which is owned by the Sembler Company.

Riefs said most associates at the store are part-time or hourly. We truly apologize for any customer inconvenience.

Riefs said transferring contracts, requires cancelling a contract and re-creating it. He said the process can be initiated by customers and done by an associate in-store.
