Superman will be felt but he won’t be seen on ‘Supergirl’

What exactly will we see on CBS” “Supergirl?’ Well lucky for you, the cast and producers just sat down to answer every question – including what role Superman will play.

Supergirl made her debut appearance in 1959 Action Comics, and Berlanti and Kreisberg worked to maintain the DNA of the character while pulling the story-telling inspiration from Richard Donner’s well-known “Superman” films that starred Christopher Reeve in 1978 and 1980.

Berlanti noted that the key to translating Supergirl – and his other DC Comics shows – for television was to make it relatable.

CBS entertainment chairman Nina Tassler said the series will be cross-promoted with CW, but that there are no crossover episodes with Arrow or The Flash planned at this time. “Right now we’re not doing it. We’re open”.

Expanding on Non to a small group of reporters, Kreisberg says that the “Non you saw in “Superman II” had been lobotomized and when we meet him, he won’t have been lobotomized yet, so our take on the character is sort of a prequel to the “Superman II” mythos”.

“I just knew automatically that she’s such a beacon of hope and I knew that her bravery and strength was intrinsic to who she is and I really needed to feel it myself in order to play her”, Benoist said. People think “Oh yeah, pick up one character and let them fly over in another setting. But he does play a part in her evolution of becoming a superhero”. We have a slightly different take on the character. We also get to see a clip of origin as Krypton is destroyed and Kara Sor-El’s pod is flung to earth. However, her father, General Sam Lane, will also be showing up and he has quite the agenda coming onto the show.

Not appearing, at least in Season 1, is Superman himself, though his presence is felt, especially in the pilot.

Being the cousin of Superman, Supergirl also exhibits the same superstrength, bullet-proofed physique and laser eyes but the show’s writers make Kara a likeable, relatable lead in a modern setting. When a reporter joked about what Han Solo or Indiana Jones [Flockhart’s real-life husband Harrison Ford] would think of that, she changed the idea to dating Clark Kent.

Supergirl premieres Monday, October 26 at 8:30 and moves to its regular timeslot at 8 November 2.

When E! News caught up with Kreisberg after the panel for Supergirl, he revealed that they’re not even thinking of Supergirl sharing the same universe like they do with Arrow and The Flash (and upcoming spinoff DC’s Legends of Tomorrow).
