Surface Book, Surface Pro 4 screen flicker? Now Microsoft updates Windows 10

At the time, I got a little hands-on time with the Pixel C, and found it to be lacking – just a nice Android tablet with a nice keyboard, but otherwise nothing special next to the similar Microsoft Surface Pro and Apple iPad Pro tablets.

The update for both also contains a new audio driver to support the updated graphics driver, an updated Surface embedded controller firmware to improve overall stability, and a new Surface Pen Settings driver to support future Windows 10 features.

The new firmware is called System Hardware Update 11/2/2015 and includes HD Graphics 520 driver update to version 20.19.15.4308, which, according to Microsoft, “addresses a few display issues, including a few scenarios that result in screen flickering”. The Surface Pro 4 changelist includes an update to v20.19.15.4308 for the HD Graphics 520 driver.

Last week, we learned that both the Surface Book and Surface Pro 4 were suffering from screen flickering, as well as battery draining while in standby mode.

An update to the Display audio driver (to v8.20.0.659) allows it to be compatible with the updated graphics driver. That is the update to the Surface System Aggregator which takes it to v88.853.258.0.

Surface Pen Settings driver (v10.0.302.0) adds support for future functionality on Windows 10.

Microsoft has begun seeding the November firmware updates for its new Surface series tablets. People are now sending in photos from Microsoft stores where we can notice big crowds of people just eager to get their hands on a Surface Pro 4 or Surface book. Based on the fixes included, this is a must-install update.

Nick Karasev, a member of the Microsoft community, noted “The Windows logs also show complaints from Hyper-V that the ‘GPUs are not compatible and this configuration isn’t supported'”.
