Surfers bitten in separate shark attacks off New Smyrna Beach

Officials said all three bites happened near the Jettys on New Smyrna Beach.

Sharks bit three different surfers in a span of a few hours Sunday, all within the same area of New Smyrna Beach. The surfer received what was described as being “significant lacerations”, though his injury was not considered to be a life-threatening one.

According to a report by WESH-TV, the first a 43-year-old man from Longwood was bitten on the lower leg about 10:30 a.m. while surfing.

Further details weren’t immediately available, by Marris confirmed that all three attacks occurred in the same area just south of the New Smyrna jetty, a popular surfing location. The bite caused “significant lacerations” but he was transported to a hospital with non life threatening injuries.

Shortly after 11 a.m., a 36-year-old Miami man was bitten on both hands while surfing in the same area, Marris said.

It was right after lunch time, at about 1 p.m., that the final #Shark Attack victim came out of the water with a bite to his thigh.
