Tamblin said it’s exciting to have an opportunity to accept money that will further breast cancer awareness – including mammograms, diagnostic procedures, patient navigation services and survivor support services.
On Mother’s Day, the tri-state area will once again take to the streets for the 26th annual “Susan G. Komen Philadelphia Race for the Cure”, the world’s largest fundraising event for breast cancer.
It’s been almost a decade since Joni Dennis beat breast cancer. They expected to raise $100,000 on Saturday to benefit Komen OC’s local initiatives, said Judy Vivian, co-founder of Stand Up for the Cure and breast cancer survivor. But, she said, “It got to the point I needed to get it checked”.
“Anyone is invited who wants to support our mission, run or walk a attractive 5K course that twice crosses the James River”, Ms. Quisenberry notes, “as well as celebrate the women and men who are breast cancer survivors and remember those who have lost their lives to breast cancer”.
“I’ll be manning the registration table while my husband, Barry will be doing the walking”, Enockson said.
It was the 18th year for the event.

“Right now there’s a $450,000 research grant in Charleston at MUSC and a gentleman who’s working with a vaccine to target the different stages of breast cancer”, Tamblin said.
Saturday night she will receive the state’s highest honor.
Almost 75 percent of the money raised from the race stays here in central IL to help cancer patients.

“There are a lot of success stories here”, said Jackie Haggar-Tuschen who has been an event organizer all 28 years.
