Sushma Swaraj can’t give verdict on ‘future of Kashmir’

“On Saturday, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj had hit out at Pakistan and had said that ‘the whole of Jammu and Kashmir belongs to India and Kashmir will never become part of Pakistan”.

Pakistan on Sunday said that India had no right to decide the future of Kashmir.

Swaraj’s comments follow remarks by home minister Rajnath Singh in Parliament on Thursday where he accused Pakistan of destabilising India.

Other separatist leaders including Shabir Shah have also been detained while Yaseen Malik of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front has been lodged in a Srinagar lockup since violent protests erupted across the Kashmir Valley following the July 8 killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani.

“Even more condemnable than these deplorable attempts from across our border to incite violence and glorify terrorists is the fact that these attempts have been undertaken by Pakistan’s state machinery in active partnership with UN-designated terrorist Hafiz Saeed and other leading terrorists belonging to internationally proscribed organisations”, Swaraj lamented.

Pakistan says it only provides diplomatic and moral support to rebels fighting Indian forces in Kashmir.

“Nawaz Sharif is probably trying to please the terrorists of Pakistan by making such statements”.

Appealing to people in Kashmir to help restore normalcy, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh yesterday said the Centre wants an emotional relationship with the state and not just need-based, even as he warned Pakistan not to interfere in India’s internal affairs.

“Once the majority of the people of Kashmir have voted for joining either Pakistan or India the whole world will accept this verdict of the Kashmiri people”, he added.

The trade body officials said they chose to boycott as a number of such meetings have yielded no results in the past and “killings of Kashmiris have continued”. “You (Pakistan) will never be able to make this heaven on earth a haven for terrorists”, she added.

“India is one of the largest economies of the world and it is natural for the global community not want to disrupt an economic power for the sake of few thousand people in Kashmir”, he said.

“Its unsafe that Pakistan herself is spreading violence in Kashmir in name of terrorists like Hafiz Saeed & several United Nations banned terrorists”. The statement from none other than the Pakistan prime minister has betrayed this despicable design. “But I would like to repeat that this dream of Pakistan will never be fulfilled”, she said.

He said that India and its leaders and media knew fully that everyone in Kashmir was a staunch supporter of freedom and resistance and ongoing protest movements were aimed at raising voice for freedom only but India, its Kashmiri agents and biased media were in a continuous state of denial and were trying to deny reality by shutting their eyes.
