Sushma Swaraj To Make Statement On Indo-Pak Developments On Dec 14

A statement in the Rajya Sabha by External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on her Pakistan visit was drowned out in an uproar by Congress members, who demanded action against the Punjab government.

Later, the session of the parliament was adjourned after India’s main opposition party, the Indian National Congress, started a protest over local issues, including the alleged corruption of the ruling Bharatia Janata Party’s three chief ministers.

According to the joint statement released by both nations, the discussions will involve peace and security, Jammu and Kashmir, Siachen, Economic and Commercial Cooperation, Counter-Terrorism, Humanitarian Issues, People to People exchanges and religious tourism.

At the same time, there was also a “sharp awareness” that principal obstacles to the growth of ties, especially terrorism, would have to be clearly and directly addressed.

Sushma Swaraj said India had emphasised the need to speed up the judicial process in the 2008 Mumbai terror attack by Pakistani terrorists.

Swaraj will brief the Lok Sabha on her Pakistan visit at 2 pm.

Breaking the logjam in their ties, India and Pakistan had on 9 December announced in Islamabad that they have made a decision to engage in a “comprehensive” dialogue that will include peace and security and Jammu and Kashmir.

“The Indian side was assured of the steps being taken to expedite its early conclusion”.

He said that Pakistan has never dragged the issues and has always wanted a comprehensive solutions of the problems with all the neighboring countries including India.

Pakistan High Commissioner to India Abdul Basit, while speaking at Agenda Aaj Tak in New Delhi said, the Hurriyat represents a large section of Kashmiri people.

During her visit, Swaraj also met Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his foreign affairs advisor Sartaj Aziz on the sidelines of the Heart of Asia summit.
