Suspect Charged Over Philadelphia Cop Shooting

The Philadelphia Inquirer and television station NBC10 in Philadelphia quoted police sources on Sunday as saying that according to the tip-off Archer was associated with three other men and was not the most extreme of the group. It is also not known if Archer had any contact with radicals or terrorist groups, or if he had been influenced by such groups from afar and become “self-radicalised”.

As the officer entered, he was approached by an unidentified man who allegedly said, “I’m hungry”.

When Hartnett called in to report shots fired, he shouted into his police radio: “I’m bleeding heavily!”. Ross said Archer told investigators he believed police enforced laws counter to the Quran.

Hartnett served 14 years with the Coast Guard, joining shortly after September 11, 2001, and serving on active duty through August 2008.

“This is a criminal with a stolen gun who tried to kill one of our officers”.

They said he began expressing interest in Islam as a teenager, played in a local Muslim football league and worked on construction jobs. But they added that the tip is not isolated, they and the Federal Bureau of Investigation will looking into it and similar tips as they investigate the incident.
