Authorities say Gold was telling the gunman that he didn’t have any cash when the man shot him once in the stomach. Surveillance video shows Gold collapsing to the sidewalk, with the gunman standing over him.

New Orleans police have arrested a suspect accused of shooting a medical student who stopped a woman’s apparent kidnapping.

Meanwhile, with the suspect still at large, police are offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to the shooter’s capture.

At a news conference Monday afternoon, police said Cain had confessed to the shooting and that his girlfriend, Nictoria Washington, 17, has also been arrested and charged with being an accessory.

In a statement, the university said Gold is “an outstanding student who represents the best of Tulane”.

Euric Cain, 21, was wanted on charges of attempted first-degree murder, second-degree kidnapping and armed robbery, according to a NOPD report. The fourth year medical student is expected to make a full recovery.

The attacker shot Gold once, before, as the witness described, the gun jammed while the robber attempted to shoot Gold again. “So we would urge anyone who looks at this video that might recognize this person to give us a call or call Crime Stoppers”, Gernon said. Michele Adams, who taught Gold while he was an undergraduate sociology student, said that she was shocked to hear of the news but was not surprised that Gold would risk his own safety for someone else. “We are going to catch you”, Police Superintendent Harrison said.

Gold was hospitalized in critical condition, but his family said in a statement his health is gradually improving. “Can’t believe it. I don’t know how many other people would’ve done that”, Baker said.

The drunken woman checked into a hospital and was released with minor injuries, Fox 8 reported.
