A suspect has been arrested in the shooting death of Eastman Police patrolman Tim Smith on Saturday night. The website of the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office in Florida says Deeds was booked into jail just before 3 a.m. Monday. A deputy spotted the auto early Monday and stopped it. He was arrested without incident as well as the driver, his sister Franshawn Shanae Deeds, 22, and Jamil Marquise Mitchell, 32, both of Lumber, Ga.

“After the driver and passenger were detained, a search of the auto revealed Royheem Deeds was hiding in the trunk of the vehicle”, Leeper said. Smith was fatally shot about 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, 2016, in a residential area of the city located about 60 miles southeast of Macon, Ga.

“Officer Smith exited his patrol auto to investigate and was shot by the individual”, the statement said. Smith joined the Eastman Police Department in February 2011 after following his father’s footsteps to become an officer. Prior to that, the Facebook page for the department offered a $15,000 reward for his arrest and citizens were told not approach him because he is considered armed and unsafe.

Their first appearances were Monday morning where they waived extradition.

Agent Whitley says Smith called in his injuries and wasn’t wearing a body camera. When responding to an emergency 911 call, two Long Island police officers encountered a man armed with multiple knives. They are advising citizens to not approach Deeds, but to call authorities. Smith wasn’t wearing a body camera, Dutton said, but he had a dash camera mounted on his patrol vehicle. Smith returned gunfire and the gunman fled the scene, according to the GBI. Tim Smith was 30 years old, not 31, according to the GBI.

Authorities are still searching for Deeds, who they consider armed and risky.

Smith’s father, Lewis Smith, is employed with Glenwood police in Wheeler County, which is less than an hour from where the shooting took place, GBI spokeswoman Nelly Miles said. She said Smith always hugged her and the children and expressed his love for them each day before he went to work.
