Suspect pleads not guilty in slaying of Long Island toddler
A 26-year-old Long Island man has been charged with second-degree murder for allegedly killing the 17-month-old son of his girlfriend, for whom he had been watching the child on and off the last several months. “He’s truly a monster”.

The investigation into the child’s death “led to the arrest of (the) defendant”, a Nassau County police spokesman said.
Pardo’s attorney insisted Mason’s death was an accident.
The injuries, he said, are “inconsistent with an accident”. By the time doctors tried to save him, he was already dead, CBS2’s Janelle Burrell reported.
“This individual doesn’t have any prior criminal record”, defense attorney Meir Moza said. At a few point, he called the mother and told her the baby was having difficulty breathing.
He will be arraigned on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 in First District Court, 99 Main Street in Hempstead.
The attorney offered that the injuries could’ve been caused by “negligence supervision”, but his client never meant to physically assault the child.
The mother’s cousin, Mary Johnson, said the family is devastated.

“For me to believe that someone is just going to harm a baby out of nowhere, it just seems farfetched”, Moza told the Press. “He was a lovable baby”. He is being held on $10 million bail, $20 million cash.
