In a galaxy far, far away, one man thought it would be clever idea to hold up a local convenience store while wearing a Darth Vader mask.

The darksider entered the store Sunday evening (Nov. 22) armed with a pistol and demanded cash.

The suspect was wearing a Darth Vader mask, gloves and dark clothing at the time. Weilding nothing but a jar of blue cheese salad dressing, the clerk summoned the powers of the Force and sent the blue cheese dressing straight into Mercer’s face. He says the suspect had a bloody face as he was leaving the 8 til Late store.

Responding patrol officers located a vehicle that matched the description in the 1600 block of Fifth Street South.

Mercer was apprehended a short time later, and the witness positively identified him.

Police arrested Mercer where he was staying after a witness identified him as the robber.

Police later found the vehicle and traced it back to an address where they unmasked Vader as Jacob Jeremy Mercer.

Mercer, 32, was then arrested. The thief was taken into custody, at Duval County jail, and also required hospitalization following the injuries he had sustained during the robbery.
