A 31-year-old Milwaukee police officer sustained serious injuries after he was reportedly shot multiple times while he was seated in his squad auto. The Guardian reports that investigators believe he is the suspect of both the ambush and the domestic violence call.
Officers responded to several calls in the 3500 block of South 17th Street early Sunday, including two domestic violence-related calls in which the suspect was no longer there when the officers arrived, Gauerke said.
Around 2 a.m., a cop was seated in a squad auto conducting the investigation when a suspect came up on foot and fire several shots into the vehicle. “But certainty the officers, I think, at this moment in time looking at the incidents in Baton Rouge and in the City of Milwaukee, will feel more comfortable in two-person teams”.
Shortly after the shooting, police say officers heard gunshots and discovered the 20-year-old male dead nearby of what appears to be a self-inflicted wound. A handgun was recovered next to the suspect.
This officer was reportedly ambushed in his squad vehicle at around 2:00am on Sunday morning while colleagues responded to a domestic disturbance call.
The officer has been identified as Brandon Baranowski, a 31-year-old man with 13 years of service, and authorities say the his injuries are not life-threatening.

Police are still investigating the incident, but as Jessup described the situation, “This is just another example of the risks our officers take each and every day to protect these citizens”. Ballistic evidence will confirm this in the coming days and MPD is not seeking any other suspects.
