Lifeguards and officials in the city of Newport Beach were meeting Tuesday to decide whether to reopen Corona Del Mar State Beach, which was closed to swimmers and surfers after Sunday’s attack.

The victim’s name was not immediately released.

The woman was conscious and breathing when she was taken to the hospital, but the state of her injuries is unknown, according to the AP.

In Florida, Neptune Beach remained open the day after the 13-year-old was attacked just before 3 p.m.by what was described as a 5-foot shark, police said.

One witness, Lou DeMark, told CBS: “This lady runs in the water carries this boy”.

The victim was swimming off the coast when she suffered some kind of animal bite to her torso Sunday afternoon, Newport Beach officials said in an earlier statement. Shark experts are forecasting a record number of shark attacks in 2016.

Shark populations are slowly recovering from historic lows in the 1990s, the world’s human population has grown and rising temperatures are leading more people to go swimming, Burgess said.

Laguna Beach Lifeguard Captain Tom Trager said the water and beaches in Laguna are open.

The woman was quickly transported to Orange County Global Medical Center in Santa Ana for treatment where she is expected to make a full recovery.
