Suspected Tornado Tears Through Wal-Mart in Alabama
A possible tornado injured five people and damaged a Wal-Mart shopping center in southeast Alabama. “All of a sudden the wind was blowing in the store”. It caused significant damage to the Wal-Mart roof and tore out the wall of a nearby sporting goods store that was closed, according to Troy Mayor Jason Reeves.

The storm first hit in the the home and pharmacy departments of Wal-Mart and moved to the other end of the structure, Brookins added. “We saw dust blowing through the door”. An 18-wheel truck in the parking lot overturned, and photos on social media showed merchandise strewn in aisles and the ceiling sagging. “There is also water damage in the area from damage to a water main”.
A strong storm cell passed through Troy, about 50 miles southeast of Montgomery, late Thursday night.
The National Weather Service in Birmingham said it would send a survey team to Troy on Friday to view the damage and determine whether the storm spawned a tornado or not.
Walmart is known for a smiley faced cartoon mascot that zips around like a whirlwind, slashing prices, but a store in Troy Ala.is reeling from experiencing that phenomenon in real life, as they pick up the debris from a tornado that struck their store late last night. All three were taken to the hospital.
“I’ve been in contact with our state legislature and he was looking into it but at this time it’s still on for the rest of the city and we’ll revisit that at a later time”, said Reeves.

“Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways”, the Weather Service instructed.
