The San Bernardino shooting is the latest in a long series of US mass shootings during Obama’s seven years in office, and is the deadliest since the December 2012 shooting at Sandy Hook elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut, which he has said was his toughest day as president.

Investigators say he left the event but returned with Malik a short time later.

Davis says California requires paperwork when guns change hands privately but many other states don’t.

“They came prepared to do what they did, as if they were on a mission”, Burguan said.

Farook and his wife left their 6-month-old girl with Farook’s grandmother Wednesday and said they had a doctor’s appointment. The device consisted of three connected pipe bombs with a remote control that apparently did not work.

“The one thing we do know is that we have a pattern now of mass shootings in this country that has no parallel anywhere else in the world, and there’s some steps we could take, not to eliminate every one of these mass shootings, but to improve the odds that they don’t happen as frequently”, Obama told CBS.
