Beloved tantra yoga teacher Steve Carter’s killing was on its way to becoming another unsolved mystery in rural Marin County before the power of social and mainstream media was tapped, authorities say.
Carey, who was on her first solo backpacking trip, was found slain in Golden Gate Park Saturday morning, following the first day of the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival.
On Thursday, all three suspects were interviewed by Marin County investigators in connection with the shooting death of 67-year-old Steve Carter. The three are suspected in the death of Steve Carter, whose body was found Monday along a scenic hiking trail 20 miles north of San Francisco.
Property belonging to the woman, Audrey Carey, was found with the suspects when they were arrested Wednesday in Oregon, San Francisco police said.
“I’m extremely proud of how so many citizens here in Marin have stepped up and became involved in aiding in our investigation, their support has been a true example of how a community can stand up and support one another in a time of need”, Pittman said.
Two days later, in Marin, Steve Carter, 67, was fatally shot while walking his dog on the Old Railroad Grade trail on White’s Hill, just west of Fairfax.
Carter’s dog is expected to make a full recovery.
Carter drove to the trail, and his 2003 Volkswagen station wagon was gone when police showed up.
Three derelict young adults have been taken into custody as suspects in the death of a well-known tantric sex therapist. The surveillance image was from Greenbridge Gas and Auto in Point Reyes Station. He was on his daily hike with his Doberman Pinscher when someone shot him several times in the head.
The trio was arrested the day before at a Portland dining hall, which serves meals to the homeless, and were found in possession of Carter’s stolen vehicle.
Doug Pittman said Thursday that the handgun was recovered during the arrest of three drifters in Portland, Oregon.
The sheriff’s office said none of the suspects has a known permanent address. “All of it seems very random and unbelievable”.
Carter was a tantra yoga teacher who, until a year ago, worked with couples in the area and even hosted classes at a nearby clothing-optional resort, the Associated Press reported.
