Co-worker Patrick Baccari says Syed Farook was gone for about a month in the spring.

Two of the suspects – a man and woman – led police on a pursuit and died in a gun battle.

Some 14 people were injured in addition to those killed.

The brother-in-law of one of the suspects in the massacre in San Bernardino, California that left 14 dead Wednesday said he was in “shock”. Farhan Khan, who is married to the sister of Farook, spoke to reporters at the Anaheim office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations. Khan said he last spoke with Farook about a week ago and said nothing seemed out of the ordinary, and that his brother in law actually seemed very happy. Hussam Ayloush, executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, said the couple left their baby with family Wednesday morning and never returned. Khan added he had “absolutely no idea why he (Farook) would do this”.
