“The men and women of ACPBA are very appreciative of everybody that took part in the investigation process yesterday”, Bennett said. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the two suspects, the Atlantic City police would like to hear from you.
The shooting happened early Saturday morning after officers stopped a vehicle near a parking garage of Caesars casino.
The man shot by police has been named as 25-year-old Jerome Damon.
Police say the second officer fired back, striking one of the suspects.
Two Atlantic City police officers saw a robbery in progress around 2:34 a.m. Saturday near the Caesars Atlantic City parking garage, according to the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office.
Update: New Jersey State Police have now arrested Martell Chisholm, 19, and Demetrius Cross, 28.
An Atlantic City police officer was shot and seriously injured early Saturday morning.
Authorities initially had been looking for five suspects and released security footage showing a group of three men walking on a city street followed closely by another group of three men.
The reason for the initial stop remains unclear.
“It’s a sad commentary on society”, Atlantic City Mayor Don Guardian said.
“These are good examples of what happens when too many of these assault weapons are in the wrong hands”, he told local news.
The NJ Cop Shot program is offering $20,000 to anyone with information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspects.
The shooting came days after the slaying of a store manager Thursday afternoon at a busy downtown shopping district and a shootout along miles of highway earlier in the week in the county.
Three suspects fully cooperated with police and were released after being cleared of any charges.
