Mr. Bhatt stated that the inquiry was done in haste and in ex-parte manner without giving him reasonable opportunity to fairly defend himself “against the machinations the highly vindictive apparatus that worked at the behest and instance of the Government of Gujarat”.
Suspended IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt was Wednesday terminated on the ground of “unauthorised absence” from service. MHA says a copy of the UPSC advice was sent to Bhatt for his comments on June 18.
“They (government) have been conducting a sham inquiry… an ex-parte inquiry about unauthorised absence from duty”, Bhatt said.
The sacking of Sanjiv Bhatt is being seen as a clear case of vendetta on the part of Gujarat government against those who tried to go against Mr Modi.
“A lot can be done (against the move) but whether it is worth challenging…Government does not want me, why I should be so keen that I want to remain in this”, Bhatt was quoted as saying.
“Be that as it may, the bottom-line is that if the Government of the day does not require my services…so be it. I pray to God that he may continue to kindle and stoke the passion and fire that has possessed me all these years”.
Bhatt said he was sacked on the basis of “a sham inquiry” with regard to his “unauthorised absence” from service when he had come to Ahmedabad to depose before the SIT probing the 2002 riots.
Modi was effectively blacklisted by a number of foreign powers in the aftermath of the riots, which happened shortly after he took over as the state’s chief minister.
The 51-year-old officer was also served a notice by the government after a sex tape that appeared to show him with an unknown woman surfaced. “Bhatt, in spite of various opportunities provided to him, did not avail any of them to prove his innocence”.

“It is apparent that the results of FSL examination, suggesting positive identity between me and the person in the said video clipping, are based on grossly insufficient comparison data”, Bhatt replied.
