Suspended Secret Service officer shot and killed in DC

A Secret Service officer who was on leave following an April burglary arrest was shot and killed in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday afternoon.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting are unclear at this time.

Author Baldwin, 30, died Tuesday around 2:50 p.m.in the 4700 block of first Street SW, along the border of the Belleview and Washington Highlands neighborhoods.

Police are looking for three people in connection with Baldwin’s murder.

Authorities said they found dents, broken hinges and a boot print in the door, as well as two windows shattered, The Washington Post reported.

Baldwin was placed under arrest and Secret Service Director Joseph Clancy ordered his security clearance suspended and placed Baldwin on administrative leave.

Baldwin, a resident of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, worked in the Secret Service’s Foreign Missions Branch. “We express our condolences to the family of our employee”, the spokesperson said.

A Secret Service spokesperson said the agency is aware of the situation.

According to a police report, the woman was “crying, shaking and appeared to be in fear of her life”. He had a court appearance a few hours before the shooting.

His criminal trial in DC Superior Court had been scheduled for February 29.
