“If you look at a number of these incidents, you can call them whatever you want: they are terrorism though”, New Jersey’s Republican Governor Chris Christie, a member of the Trump campaign, told CNN. “We believe they did the right thing”. Police soon realized the backpack contained five explosives.

The explosion happened in Chelsea, Manhattan, on Saturday. Authorities continued to work on disarming the other devices. Later that night, a bomb exploded in Chelsea, injuring 29.

ELIZABETH, N.J. (AP) — Investigators examined a suspicious device found Sunday night in a trash can near a New Jersey train station, and service on the busy Northeast Corridor line was suspended. The bag had wires and a pipe protruding from it.

The bomb squad robot was attempting to defuse the explosive device but cut the wrong wire which triggered the explosion. No injuries were reported, but nearby structure were damaged, and the blast was treated as a possible terror act.

Authorities have identified a suspect in the Manhattan explosion case as a 28-year-old New Jersey resident of Afghan descent who may be armed and risky, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said on Monday. Federal Bureau of Investigation and state police were also called to help investigate. The accidental explosion triggered conflicting reports regarding whether police intended a controlled detonation.

The latest bomb to be discovered was in a package containing what authorities said were “multiple improvised explosive devices”.

With investigation underway, train services were suspended between Newark’s Liberty Airport and Elizabeth, while New Jersey-bound Amtrak trains from NY were being held at the Penn Station.

The bag, which had five suspicious devices in it, forced authorities to shut down or restrict transit in the area, including some Amtrak trains and New Jersey Transit services in and out of NY.

NJ transit and Amtrak trains were held while special units investigated the reported devices. “Our customers are safe and trains have been brought into stations to allow passengers to disembark and seek alternate transportation”.
