Suzuki gets 4257th career hit, surpassing Rose’s total
Suzuki first matched and then beat Pete Rose’s record career tally with a single in the first inning and a double in the ninth, though Rose still holds the Major League Baseball record as 42-year-old Suzuki’s first 1,278 hits came in his native Japan. With that many hits he has already passed Pete Rose’s record in the league.

“To do this at 42, he is an inspiration to baseball fans around the world”, Oh said. Catching Rose’s record of 4256 hits isn’t going to happen for Ichiro, but he still has a chance to get over 3000 hits and that’s a huge accomplishment. For the record, Ichiro put up 10 straight 200-hit seasons when Rose had 10 for his entire career. More than 40 years later the names of Rose and Suzuki are coming up in the same sentence. In his rookie year Ichiro had 242 hits, for a batting average of.350, and won both Rookie of the Year and the American League MVP.
HollywoodLifers, are you impressed by Ichiro’s record?
“He can still run, and I think he could play for another four or five years”. Ichiro is chasing 3,000 hits, not 4,256. “Some of his pitches were getting too much of the plate”.
Suzuki’s first hit Wednesday was on a dribbler in the first. I would like a little bit more stability. “This is incredible. I can nearly feel a sense of holiness or something divine behind his powers”.
Marlins manager Don Mattingly wouldn’t take sides, but he disputed part of Rose’s argument.
Nevertheless, it was a monumental moment in sports as many doubted the prowess of an undersized Japanese player being able to slug it out in the Major League. “To say it’s minor league and major league numbers, that’s not quite fair”. He holds the single season record of 262, and has 3 of the top 18 spots ever.
RED SOX 6, ORIOLES 4 Hanley Ramirez hit his first home run since May 10 and knuckleballer Steven Wright allowed 3 runs and 6 hits in 7 1/3 innings for host Boston in a victory over Baltimore.
Miami Marlins’ Ichiro Suzuki looks on in the dugout before batting in the ninth inning of a baseball game against the San Diego Padres Wednesday, June 15, 2016, in San Diego.
Barry Bonds, of all people, came up with a great suggestion. Or unless you’re ESPN trying to build an audience across the Pacific or boost your baseball ratings in the U.S. One more than the seemingly unbreakable total Pete Rose amassed during his career.
ESPN baseball analyst Buster Olney took a saner stand than the network’s announcers earlier in the week when he wrote that there’s “really no need to compare, and it’s impossible to compare”. He surpassed 200 hits in each of his first 10 seasons and became a hitting icon who will nearly assuredly enter the Baseball Hall of Fame one day.
The further argument about whether Ichiro should be considered the all-time leader – passing Pete Rose – when you combine Japanese pro hits with Major League Baseball is simply predictable entertainment, with inevitable and amusing reaction from the ostracized hit king.

“Let’s just leave it at this: Ichiro is one of the best hitters in baseball history”.
