“It has come a long way with Swansea to reach an agreement”, he said.

The Spain star is set to arrive with a wealth of experience, having lifted three Serie A titles with Juventus and the Europa League with Sevilla previous year.

But he was not a regular starter by the time he returned to La Liga with Sevilla, where he played second-fiddle to Kevin Gameiro.

Tottenham, meanwhile, have offloaded winger Alex Pritchard to Championship side Norwich City for an undisclosed fee, believed to the in the region of £8m.

Swansea City have agreed the signing of former Spain global Fernando Llorente with Sevilla pending the medical tests of the striker, IBTimes UK understands.

Swansea are also keen on Leicester striker Leonardo Ulloa.

“It was always going to be the case after the Euros that a lot of the transfer business would be done later than normal”.
