Leicester City boss Claudio Ranieri says he knew Jamie Vardy would return to form ahead of his strike in the 2-1 victory over Swansea City.

Riyad Mahrez wasted a chance to make it three when the winger’s penalty was saved by Lukasz Fabianski before Leroy Fer’s 80th-minute goal for Swansea came too late to rescue a point for the visitors at the King Power Stadium. But I think Leicester deserved to win. Claudio Ranieri said: ” Mendy is getting better, I think and I hope that after the worldwide break he’s ready to play.

Last season’s surprise Premier League winners Leicester take on a team of about the ranking they might themselves have been placed in at the beginning of last season, i.e. relegation contenders. They were playing good football with good intensity and aggression.

Last season’s 24-goal top scorer is yet to get off the mark in the league, having scored in Leicester’s 2-1 Community Shield defeat to Manchester United, and Ranieri feels he is now getting special attention.

“Vardy is a complete player”. I’m very focused to achieve 40 points – this is our target.

He raced onto a first-time, volleyed pass from Danny Drinkwater and outmuscled Jordi Amat before blasting home a shot off Fabianski’s left-hand post. In the second half it changed after a meeting in the dressing room.

Francesco Guidolin: We need to play a clever game this weekend, and we also need to play a courageous game against a very good team.

Fer told his Swansea team-mates they can not continue to concede soft goals, after Morgan was able to volley home from six yards out after a simple corner.

He told BBC Sport: “From two behind we got a good goal at the right time”.

Leicester should have been more than a single goal clear at half-time but they made their advantage pay just seven minutes into the second half.

“Arsenal was important because last season we conceded five goals on the counter-attack”. We keep saying it but keep doing it.

But the Scotland Under-21 global is not ready to rest on his laurels after an impressive first start and revealed he is hoping summer signings Fernando Llorente – a World Cup victor – and fellow Spaniard Borja Baston can help improve his all-round game.
