“We’ve worked hard to get into the Premier League”.

“I could never ever turn the job down when the club decided that they weren’t going to bring anybody in and wanted to keep it in house. You can see the concerns of the supporters but that’s the situation we find ourselves in”.

Swansea have said Ayew is not for sale but we all know that, ultimately, money talks.

They were limited to a season-low four shots and one on target, giving them just five such threats on the losing streak.

“It’s a huge responsibility”.

Curtis believes that if they get it right, as they have so often in the past, that addition could lift the whole squad and change the trajectory of the Swans’ season.

“I’ve always said our style will be the thing that will save us or take us down, but I don’t want to think about that”.

“They know the situaton we are in”.

“Our league position tells us we are in trouble and that possibly the only way out of it is that we do bring people in”.

Hornets boss Quique Sanchez Flores could freshen up his side following what was a third successive Barclays Premier League defeat at Southampton on Wednesday night, when defender Craig Cathcart, midfielder Ikechi Anya and Colombia forward Victor Ibarbo all came off the bench.

Curtis, whose side sit in the relegation zone following Newcastle United’s win against West Ham on Saturday, admitted the nature of the midweek defeat – dominated by controversial refereeing decisions – left his players in a bad way, but he hopes to ensure there are no lasting negative effects on morale by avoiding another loss.

“I’m sure there will be one or two players coming in very soon”. “Who that individual is… that is done by the powers that be”.

Swansea interim manager Alan Curtis will work alongside Francesco Guidolin from now
