Ghana star Andre Ayew has been shortlisted as one of the five candidates for the 2015 BBC African Footballer of the Year as the Swansea City star guns for his second award by the global broadcaster.

The 26-year-old striker scored in eight consecutive games at the start of the season for Dortmund and also netted 25 goals for the club last term.

He is joined by Swansea’s Andre Ayew and Manchester City’s Yaya Toure, and completing the list are Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Yacine Brahimi.

Brahimi is the current holder of the award and this year’s victor will be named by football fans, who have until November 30 to vote.

On 16 May, Southampton’s Mane needed just 176 seconds to score the fastest hat-trick in the 23-year history of the Premier League. The forward was also shortlisted for the Confederation of African Football Player of the Year award.

Yacine Brahimi won the award in 2014, becoming the first Algerian to do so. The recipient will be announced on the 11th December.
