The Swiss company’s strategy appears primarily to revolve around including individual tech features in different models rather than going head to head with Apple to create all-in-one smartwatches combining many functions.
In his disclosure about Swatch’s plans to add to its smartwatch range, Hayek told Tages-Anzeiger said: “Our product is called Touch Zero One and that gives enough room for Zero Five, Zero Nine;” and added alongside that “the Touch Zero One is not the end of the progression”.
Swatch, a Swiss watch maker is planning to introduce multiple smart watches in years to come.
The Swatch Touch Zero Two will feature NFC for mobile payments, as an alternative to credit cards. The company also intends to unveil smartwatches that are spruced up with “near field communication” chip this year.
Hayek Jr said that TAG Heuer’s partnership with Google and Intel for a smartwatch was a “a mystery to me” and that he regrets “that for a company with a long Swiss tradition, TAG-Heuer owner LVMH is apparently not willing to invest in Switzerland in the work place”.
According to a report on Patently Apple, Swatch has been awarded trademark for “One More Thing”.
