Zlatan Ibrahimovic proved to be the match victor for Sweden, as they recorded a 2-1 win over Denmark in the first leg of their play-off tie.

EURO 2016 will be without Danish participation following Denmark’s 2-2 draw against Sweden at home in Parken Stadium in Copenhagen tonight.

Jimmy Durmaz combined nicely with Mikael Lustig down the right for Sweden, and the full-back’s low cross was met expertly by midfielder Emil Forsberg for his first worldwide goal.

“I have informed the DBU and the players that I will stop now”.

A player who, on his own, is responsible for a few of the most unbelievable, jaw-dropping goals in football history and by virtue of playing for Sweden, misses out on the global success he deserves.

“It’s always disappointing to concede a goal”, said Sweden coach Erik Hamren.

Paris Saint-Germain striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic stepped up to take the spot kick and made no mistake from 12 yards.

“Together with the police and security police we have chose to take certain actions to raise the level of security from a level that is already high, so that those attending the game can feel safe and secure”, he added.

A similar tribute was paid at the other Euro 2016 first leg playoff of the evening, which saw Ukraine beat Slovenia 2-0.

Tuesday’s match will be the 105th meeting between the Scandinavian rivals and it could yet be the last game in charge for Denmark coach Morten Olsen.

With the outside of the Friends Arena lit up in the red, white and blue colours of the French flag, a minute’s silence for the victims of Friday’s Paris attacks was observed before the game. Denmark played well enough in Sweden to give their fans hope that the home leg can be won to ensure they qualify for the tournament outright. “I thought our defence was good for 60 minutes”.
