Swimmer Chen Xinyi of China tests positive at Rio Olympics
RIO DE JANEIRO – A female Chinese swimmer has tested positive for a banned substance at the Rio Olympics, China’s swimming association said Friday – the first competitor in the sport to fail a test at the games.

Chen was listed on the official start sheets on Friday as the heats got under way and then recorded on the results as DNS (did not start).
She tested positive for hydrochlorothiazide, CAS said in a statement.
Chen has applied to the International Olympic Committee for testing of a second sample and a hearing to look into the matter, the swimming association known as the CSA said.
Diuretics increase urination rates and can be used as “masking agents” to hide the presence of performance-enhancing substances that doping tests screen for.
She finished fourth Sunday in the 100-meter butterfly and pulled out before Friday’s 50-meter freestyle, her final event of the games.
European champion weightlifter Tomasz Zielinksi and Bulgarian 3,000m steeplechase runner Silvia Danekova were the first definitive exclusions ordered by a special anti-doping division of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Rio, it said in a statement.
In order to add accountability and transparency of the Rio Games, the International Olympic Committee has adopted a new step in its doping control process.
Breaststroke star Yuliya Efimova has gone on to win two silver medals despite being implicated in two separate doping scandals during her career.
“This reported test should be generated by the organizer”. Miami was told previous year that it could no longer admit Sun Yang* to its facilities after he tested positive for a banned substance in 2014. “The only explanation can be food additives that I have been taking”. “[Results] of three of the samples were negative”. But no details have been given on what basis the swimmer could be challenging the failed test.
Like Zielinski, her case will now be passed to her worldwide federation to decide on how long she should be banned.

Adrian won gold in the 85kg category in London and had moved up to the next weight category, 94kg, for Rio. Chen was 16 when she catapulted up the world rankings to a 56.61 victory for China over 100m butterfly at the Asian Games.
