Anthony Ervin became the oldest American swimmer to win an individual Olympic gold medal Friday night, winning the 50-meter freestyle by 0.01 over France’s Florent Manaudou.

The medal was Adrian’s third in Rio.

Anthony Ervin, the oldest USA man to swim an individual event in the Olympics since 1904, captured the 50-meter freestyle at the Olympic Aquatics Stadium on Friday.

Ervin is the oldest male swimmer to ever win a gold medal at 35 years old. He also won bronze in Wednesday’s 100-meter freestyle and was part of Sunday’s gold medal-winning 4x100m freestyle relay team.

Ervin, won the 50 freestyle 16 years ago at the 2000 Olympics and auctioned off the medal to aid survivors of the 2004 tsunami, but was excited to get a gold back as he splashed water in excitement after the race. But just 21.40 seconds after the start it was a familiar face that came out on top.
