Swimming: Relay hands Ledecky third gold of Rio Games
United States’ gold medal victor Michael Phelps competes in the men’s 200-meter individual medley final during the swimming competitions at the 2016 Summer Olympics, Thursday, Aug. 11, 2016, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

“I don’t know how to wrap my head around that”, Phelps said. “This will come to me tomorrow”.
Given the world’s political upheaval of 1936, you can argue that the four gold medals won by Jesse Owens in those Berlin Games with the monster Hitler in the stands was the greatest Olympic feat ever. Then, he’ll close out these Olympics in the 4×100 medley relay. This is just one phase of my life that I worked so hard for and made so many sacrifices for.
Phelps left Lochte trailing in his wake. He finished a full body length ahead of the field with total dominance on the breaststroke and freestyle legs, touching in 1 minute, 54.66 seconds.
“I am really looking forward to it, I can’t wait”, Bronte said. “This is exactly how I want to exit the sport”. The two semi-finals are scheduled for 4.34am and 4.42am SA time on Friday morning. Lochte led at the midway point but faded to fifth with a time of 1:57.47. We’re swimming well. We’re swimming a lot better than at trials.
A gold one, at that.
DiRado, barely known outside of swimming before the Rio Games, won her first gold to add to a silver and a bronze medal in what she has said will be her only Olympics.
There is one difference in that race, as well as in the entire meet: Phelps, who was serving a suspension during last year’s world championships because of a drunk-driving arrest, is here.
“I’ve been able to kind of finish how I wanted to”, Phelps said.
Yosuhiro Koseki of Japan went out fast and was more than a second under world-record pace at the final turn.
Rio Olympics – Fencing France’s Auriane Mallo (R) competes against US Courtney Hurley during the womens team epee classification 5-8 bout between France and US as part of the fencing event of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, on August 11, 2016, at the Carioca Arena 3, in Rio de Janeiro. The teenager is also the youngest Olympic gold medalist in that event since 17-year-old Jorg Woithe of East Germany at the 1980 Moscow Games. “He’s just an awesome athlete, an unbelievable citizen, who has set the bar for athletes all around”.

The teenager from suburban Washington has one more race to go, and it might be the biggest lock of all. The Ravens went on to win 22-19.
