The U.S. women’s 4×100-meter medley relay team of Kathleen Baker, Lilly King, Dana Vollmer and Manuel — winners at the Rio Games on Saturday night — is being recognized by the U.S. Olympic Committee as delivering the nation’s 1,000th gold medal in Summer Olympics history.

“Out of the 1,000 gold medals, more than half have come from track and field (323) and swimming (246)”.

After watching Mo Farah make history winning the men’s 10,000m in the early hours of Sunday morning, Team GB were clearly inspired and showed it in their performances.

“It’s going to be a stretch and we’ve said that all along that top five and 15-16 gold medals ain’t going to be easy”. He’s the first runner to successfully defend his 800-meter Olympic title since 1964.

Phelps took the lead in the third leg, the butterfly, before Nathan Adrian maintained it during the last leg as the United States won ahead of Britain and Australia.

There are also medals up for grabs in men’s pole vault and men’s 800 meters.

The red-hot US women’s team plays Germany (11:30 a.m. ET) in the quarterfinals. It’s the toughest test yet for Dalhausser, the 2008 gold medalist, and his rookie partner. Levit beat Savon’s nephew, Erislandy, to reach the final. That fight starts at 7:15 p.m. In a sensational period of play though Stenson bogeyed the hole while Rose sank a birdie putt to win gold for Britain and cap off an awe-inspiring day.

It was then all eyes on the Velodrome to witness an all-round Team GB final with Jason Kenny and Callum Skinner competing for gold. In fact, the most shocking thing of these Olympics may have been the fact that he had to settle for one silver medal.

Biles is the reigning world champion in the floor exercise. India, on the other hand, has not won a single medal yet in Rio.

Next up is Mexico on Monday in the final preliminary match before the knockout quarterfinals.

On the penultimate day of competition Anthony Ervin became the oldest swimmer to claim an Olympic gold medal when he claimed the 50m freestyle title aged 35. But Lopez will likely have to get through Turkish strongman Riza Kayaalp to win gold.

The achievement comes just five weeks after he won the second Wimbledon championship of his career.

The women’s race takes place at a course along iconic Copacabana beach.

If the past is anything to go by it’s safe to say we will be seeing him in four years time in Tokyo putting the younger guns through their paces again. In his only other event, the 31-year-old took silver in the 100m butterfly.

And this medal marked another incredible milestone. Reigning gold medalist Lasse Norman Hansen of Denmark leads the six-discipline event at the midway point, but the British star is within striking distance. They didn’t better that today, with 3:53.13.
