Swiss train attack dies of his wounds

Two people have died following yesterday’s attack on board a train in Switzerland.

He was hurt after rushing in to pull the attacker – who was on fire – from the train, police said.

The 27 year old perpetrator of the train attack near Salez-Sennwald in the Swiss canton of St. Gallen, has died from his injuries, according to St. Gallen’s police.

They are still trying to determine the motive behind the attack, which took place as the train neared the Swiss town of Salez, close to the border with Liechtenstein. Some of the injured were described as having “serious” injuries, according to a BBC News report from the time. The police believe that the attacker was acting alone after viewing a video footage showing the whole process of the event.

A 34-year-old woman died from wounds sustained during the attack on Sunday 14 August.

Regional police eastern canton of Saint Gallen in Switzerland said that a 34-year-old woman who had been in critical condition in the attack, had succumbed to her injuries in the morning today.

The 27-year-old man stabbed several passengers and set fire to the train after pouring a flammable liquid into one of the carriages.

“The motive remains unclear”, police said in a statement.

Seven people including the suspected attacker were admitted to hospital with burn and stab wounds, the statement said. All his victims survived the attacks. Three others remain hospitalized with.

Last September, a heavily armed gunman opened fire on a high-speed Amsterdam-Paris train, but he was overpowered by two young American soldiers and their companion.
