Swiss watchmaker pokes fun at Apple Watch with $25000 mechanical imitation
Luxury watchmaker H. Moser & Cie’s is the closest yet, looking virtually identical to Apple’s smartwatch with its rectangular chassis, crown, band, and even 38mm size.

Anyone thinking of trading in their Apple Watch for the Swiss Alp might want to reconsider as the fine timepiece comes with a price tag of $25,000 (£17,150), far beyond the Apple Watch’s starting point of £479.
The promo video for this Apple Watch imitation is also made in a very Apple-esque manner, with the narration and white font in place. Well, it’s definitely not for the average consumer, but those who buy it can at least be sure that it won’t be outdated in a year’s time.
H. Moser & Cie has a similar message for customers in its press release… The company CEO Edouard Meylan calls the device “symbolic”, claiming it’s meant to be a “proof that traditional mechanical watchmaking has a future”.
Yikes. Moser doesn’t pose much of a threat to the Apple Watch, and they’re likely just having a literally small amount of fun at the behemoth’s expense. It represents our resilience, our ferocious desire to fight for our values and traditions.
So what if you’re actually interested in buying this thing?
Don’t look for this timepiece in your local retail stores, though.
The Swiss Alp Watch is definitely not a joke and the watch blog Hodinkee says that it is available for purchase.

On the company’s website, the Alp Watch is described as a completely mechanical watch which is “inspired by the modern design of smartwatches, [although it] is entirely mechanical”. It’s an interesting move on Moser’s part, but I doubt Apple will respond.
