Syndergaard pulled with apparent injury on Mets’ day from hell
He is questionable for the rest of the weekend, though the Mets are hoping the All-Star break will give him a chance to heal before next Friday’s opener against the Phillies.

Stephen Strasburg stayed undefeated, winning a marquee pitching matchup against an ailing Noah Syndergaard by tossing seven innings of two-hit ball Friday night that sent the Washington Nationals to a 3-1 victory over the banged-up New York Mets. “As I’ve told you before, nobody in baseball feels sorry for us”, Collins said. 302 with 21 home runs and 52 RBIs, made a sliding catch in the outfield in the third which appeared to cause the injury.
Syndergaard’s presence at All-Star week will allow pitching coach Dan Warthen and bullpen coach Ricky Bones to keep an eye on him.
It’s been more than a century since a National League starting pitcher was as flawless as Stephen Strasburg so far. Then, in the fifth, Asdrubal Cabrera led off the inning with a solo home run to right.
Citi Field. Top of the fourth inning. After throwing a 2-2 fastball, clocked at 94 miles per hour, to Jayson Werth.
Said Collins: “I said “I don’t like the looks of this.’ And (Syndergaard) just said ‘I lost it” and he just said his arm is exhausted. He’s got a exhausted arm and (his) stuff went away”, Collins said. A trainer accompanied Syndergaard off the mound.
He lasted only 4.2 innings, allowing four hits and three runs while striking out five.
Clint Robinson hit a two-run homer in the second for the Nationals while Daniel Murphy continued to dominate his former team with an RBI double in the third. While some pitchers go through a dead arm period during spring training, Collins said he’d never seen a situation in which the velocity dropped so suddenly from pitch to pitch. 261 hitter against the Mets, has does have 18 homers and 45 RBI in just 78 career games against them. “I’ve thrown a lot of pitches. It just really all boils down to a little shoulder fatigue”.
Syndergaard said he doesn’t plan to have an MRI.
The Mets also saw Yoenis Cespedes come out of Friday’s game with an injury.
“Last year in Spring Training …” Cespedes said he suffered the same injury against Detroit and missed 4-5 days. “Hopefully it doesn’t translate into me going onto the 15-day DL”.
Earlier Collins had said that he meant to pitch Syndergaard in the All-Star Game Tuesday regardless of his recent elbow woes.
David Wright underwent neck surgery last month, and has admitted he’s not sure if he’ll be back this season. Duda isn’t expected back anytime soon, and there’s no longer a timetable for Wheeler’s return following a few setbacks in his rehabilitation program.
