Take care of the ball.

South Carolina: Wilson, who leads the SEC with 3.1 blocks a game, swatted three shots and had four steals…

Day’s sister Bria commented after Syracuse’s second-round victory over Albany that the she didn’t see “much of a challenge” to a Gamecocks squad which won the last meeting between the two squads by 29 points.

Syracuse took its first lead midway through the fourth at 63-61, and after USC scored consecutive baskets to go back on top 65-63, the Orange went on a 11-3 run, capped off with a Brianna Butler 3-pointer that gave Syracuse a 74-68 lead with a minute to go. This one is going to sting for a while, as both the team and the fans had their sights set on bigger things, but the Gamecocks gave us a lot to cheer for this season and it’s still easy to be proud of everything they accomplished.

Alexis Peterson scored 25 points to lead the Orange (28-7), who won for the 14th time in 15 games. “They did a good job at winning the game”.

SC guard Tina Roy practically couldn’t miss in the first half and had 17 points off the bench.

TENNESSEE 78, OHIO STATE 62 – Mercedes Russell led the way with 25 points as the Lady Vols rolled over third-seeded Ohio State in the other Sioux Falls regional semifinal. We can’t really dictate what people say.

Alaina Coates had 18 points and 16 rebounds – making all seven of her field goals, while A’ja Wilson had 15 points, 10 rebounds, four steals and three blocks for SC. Lex told me they’re going to fall.

This version corrects the only other team to beat SC to UConn, not Notre Dame, in 8th paragraph. We knew if we could stay within striking distance, we had a chance. I just feel like it kind of is what it is.

Day said Thursday that “things get misconstrued”. “We knew we weren’t favored; we had a 7 percent chance to win. It’s not new. We just have to do what’s been helping us win, and that’s pressure”. “Even the snow.” At this remote outpost on the way to another potential Final Four, her players still found a way to do just that. “No”, Hillsman said. “Everybody does it. It’s just about us doing it better”.

3-Point Goals_Syracuse 8-23 (Butler 4-10, Peterson 2-5, Morrison 1-2, Ford 1-2, Slim 0-1, Sykes 0-3), SC 8-32 (Roy 5-15, Cuevas 2-5, Mitchell 1-8, Dozier 0-2, Sessions 0-2). The first time SC turned it over against the press was early in the fourth quarter, after Butler’s 3-pointer cut the lead to 56-52. Brittney Sykes added 17 and Briana Day had 13 rebounds. South Carolina, however, is keeping him up at night.
