Syria Aleppo siege: Rebels storm artillery base
The group said each attack between July 23 and July 31, including three strikes on hospitals in Aleppo’s eastern half within a 24-hour period, killed patients and “further deprived almost 300,000 people now trapped in eastern Aleppo of life-saving medical care”.

On Thursday, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the number of victims has risen in the last 24 hours to at least 16 dead, including 4 children, due to air assaults that targeted the districts of Mashhad, al-Sakri, Bustan al-Qasr and Saliheen and other parts of eastern Aleppo.
“Bear with us. I think in the next few days there might be some movement” toward “credible talks”, he said in Geneva, where the International Syria Support Group held a meeting to discuss the situation in Aleppo.
Following heavy Russian air strikes on the outskirts of divided Aleppo city, US Secretary of State John Kerry on Monday urged Russia to “restrain” itself and its ally in Damascus from “offensive operations”. Skeptics fear the Russians will take advantage of US intelligence sharing to further support the government of Syrian President Bashar Assad, who Obama has said has lost legitimacy to lead. The inmates refused to hand them over and rebelled.
Approximately 300,000 civilians are trapped inside the besieged city, according to the UN.

Another 42 people, including 11 children, have been killed in strikes on eastern Aleppo, it said. Jan Egeland, an adviser to U.N.’s special envoy to Syria, says only 40 percent of planned humanitarian relief was delivered in June and July.
In recent days, both rebel and government forces have been accused of using chemical weapons. Islamic State fighters are not active in the area, but there are other Islamist rebel groups there, as well as moderates backed by the United States and its allies.
“Given the deteriorating situation, it is time for Russian Federation to show that it is serious about pursuing these objectives”, he said.
The army said it had foiled the attack on the artillery base and two major barracks and that hundreds of insurgents had been killed and much of their equipment and tanks destroyed.
Meanwhile, the delivery of aid in Syria continues to be obstructed by the heightened levels of violence.
The government siege of opposition-held districts began on July 17 and has raised fears of a humanitarian crisis.

“The activists also said a refugee camp and an aid convoy were hit in those air strikes”, Sayah said.
