Syria ‘dynamic’ must change to kill Daesh, says Kerry

How do you dismantle their weapons program.

Despite the agreement reached with Iran on putting the nuclear bomb out of Tehran’s reach, several US officials, including the Defence Secretary, Ashton Carter, have signalled that military force remains on the table to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.

Quite right, but it gets worse still: All of the above proceeds from the assumption that the Obama administration will actually try to use the agreement’s elaborate procedures, take disputes to the Security Council, and re-sanction Iran in the event that it violates its commitments. And I will tell you in my conversations with the Iranians, we talked about it pretty directly, and they resent enormously any kind of threat.

He said there is more chance of a nuclear arms race in the Middle East without the recently negotiated deal.

“There is no trust – no, no, no. This is not based on trust,” he said. Alternatively, Congress can condition the Iran deal’s legal stature on the passage of enabling legislation – that requires simple majorities in both houses.

During the hearing, Corker said the deal falls short of dismantling Iran’s nuclear program. But he said that administration experts “are familiar and comfortable with the contents” and willing to discuss them with Congress in a classified setting. And in practical terms, “the essence of Iran’s nuclear capability is nothing physical”.

In order to believe that is possible, we must forget everything we know about the nature of a regime that is inherently aggressive and motivated by an extreme religious ideology that sees moderate Arabs, the West, the United States and Israel as enemies to be destroyed, not partners for peace and cooperation. “Our companions won’t stroll away with us”. “What we’ve done is roll that program back and provide a capacity to have inspectors going forward so we will know what Iran is doing.”

How could they support a deal that they claim won’t work?

There is only one penalty for any infraction, big or small – taking Iran to the United Nations Security Council for the “snapback” of global sanctions. “Totally go to war?” he challenged lawmakers.

Congress has until September 17 to approve or reject the deal.

In a recent PBS interview, Kerry was asked about widespread apprehension that Tehran will use the tens of billions of dollars coming its way in sanctions relief to unleash new violence through Hezbollah and other terror groups. President Obama has promised to veto any resolution opposing the deal.

Many Democratic lawmakers were noncommittal as they emerged from Wednesday’s closed-door meetings, saying they need to study the deal more before making a decision. “If left unanswered, these concerns lead me to believe that this agreement could end up being a catastrophic mistake”. Iran’s Parliament agreed Tuesday to study the deal over the next 80 days, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani warned Iranian critics of the agreement that without it the economic sanctions would trigger an economic Stone Age. Slowly, a number of congressional Democrats have lined up behind the deal.

As the crowd loomed behind police barricades, chants of “Kill the deal!” could be heard for blocks. Between November 2012 and November 2013, when all worldwide sanctions against Iran were in place, it installed 6,000 new centrifuges.

Hatch has represented the State of Utah in the U.S. Senate since 1976.

At the rally, Alan Dershowitz, a prominent Jewish attorney, said he was “opposing the deal as a liberal Democrat”.

Nunn said ultimately there are two objectives when it comes to Iran.

“That is not the way democracy should operate”, he told the crowd.
