Syria opposition figure says Assad has ‘buried’ cease-fire
The group said the towns of Maarat al-Numan and Kafranbel in Idlib province were hit, both known as pro-opposition strongholds.

Intense fighting in Syria has left a six-week-old ceasefire in tatters.
The partial truce – brokered by the USA and Russian Federation in February – had led to a dramatic drop in violence, but a recent surge in fighting, especially around second city Aleppo, has renewed fears of a total collapse in the peace talks.
So far, the opposition has been careful to say it is not pulling out of the talks altogether.
“If this ends now, it will be over for at least a year…” The two Cold War era super-powers are joint sponsors of the peace process and ceasefire, after intensifying diplomacy following Russia’s decision past year to join the war, an intervention that tipped momentum Assad’s way.
“The majority of the violations have been by the regime, and we have reason to believe at this point that that was the case with this particular bombing”, State Department spokesman John Kirby said.
Hijab also said a clear timetable for the political transition in Syria is a must – adding such a transition can’t include Assad.
World powers have backed the ceasefire and talks as the best hope yet to end a conflict that has devastated Syria, killed more than 270,000 people and forced millions from their homes. Rebels say they were defending themselves from attacks by the army and its Shi’ite militia allies. He said his coalition can’t continue with the talks in Geneva while fighting and suffering continued on the ground.
Hijab said: “There can not be a solution in Syria while Bashar Assad is present”.
“You need to give them the support they need, but at the same time make sure that there are no terrorists infiltrating among the refugees”, Hollande added.
According to Ross Harrison, the United States does not control the opposition, “particularly Jabhat al-Nusra [al-Nusra Front], which, because of its affiliation with al-Qaeda, has been excluded from the cessation of hostilities ever since it went into effect in late February”.
Head of the main Syrian opposition group High Negotiations Committee (HNC) Riad Hijab addresses the media in a hotel in Geneva, Switzerland, April 19, 2016.
Speaking to students in a Hague theater on Tuesday, Ban said the war “has been the scene of the use of chemical weapons, siege and starvation as a tool of war, unlawful detention, torture and indiscriminate and criminal shelling and aerial bombardment of civilians”. Russian Federation has been propping up Assad, who the US and other groups want to remove from office because of his history of human-rights violations.
This week’s negotiations between UN Syria envoy Staffan de Mistura, a regime delegation and opposition delegates in Geneva were meant to focus on Syria’s political future, as the UN pushes a plan involving a transitional authority, a new constitution and eventual elections. About half of the HNC delegation remained.
The attack confirmed the apparent unraveling of a fragile cease-fire agreement between Syrian government forces and some armed opposition groups.
“We can not continue to be in discussions in Geneva when our people are dying of hunger and bombardments”, Hijab told a news conference. “We do not believe that the way forward is any removal by the opposition from these talks”.
“We have more than 20 cars that have been moving dead and injured to hospitals in the area”, said Ahmad Sheikho, a member of the civil defense corps, a rescue service operating in opposition-held territory. “By issuing ultimatums, the Riyadh group, it seems, is trying to mask the fact it has no concrete and realistic proposals”, the foreign ministry said.

Randa Kassis, who heads up a Moscow-backed opposition group, said both sides wanted to impose their view. While the U.S.is no stranger to involvement in Middle Eastern conflicts, Russian Federation has learned from the Americans’ mistakes and their own incursion into Afghanistan in the 1980s.
