Syria’s civil war: Foreign ministers meet in Paris
Russia, Assad’s close ally, said it would work with the Syrian government to minimize flights over civilian areas where opposition groups and rights activists have claimed that Syria’s military has violated the cease-fire.

He described Monday’s meeting as a mobilization of the worldwide community but said it was not meant to replace the meetings of the global Syria Support Group, which brings together outside backers of both the Syrian government and the opposition, including the US, Russia, Iran and Saudi Arabia.
There were limited breaches of the most recent five-day cease-fire from both sides.
It comes as the United States says a new agreement with Russian Federation will replace localised ceasefires in Syria with a revived, nationwide truce.
The two powers also agreed to extend a truce across the whole of the country.
The two former Cold War foes said in a May 9 joint statement that they have agreed to “redouble efforts” to find a political solution to the Syrian conflict and “intensify efforts” to ensure the nationwide implementation of the cease-fire.
Al Manar, the television channel of Damascus’s Lebanese ally Hezbollah, said on Monday troops had destroyed a tank belonging to insurgents and killed some of its occupants.
Rebel sniper fire killed one person late Tuesday, the state SANA news agency reported.
“We are using our influence with the CoH parties on the ground to press them to abide by the COH, refrain from disproportionate responses to provocations and demonstrate restraint”, the statement said, referring to the ceasefire, referred to as a “cessation of hostilities”.
The Observatory said a woman and a child were among the three civilians killed when the rebels rained rockets down on several districts of western Aleppo city.
A party to the truce is the Syrian government that is accountable for its commitments, the Iranian spokesman said.
The Observatory said warplanes struck rebel-held areas of the city early on Monday, and rebels fired shells into government-held neighborhoods, despite a Russian-announced extension of a truce encompassing the city of Aleppo.
Peace talks in Geneva between government delegates and opposition figures, including representatives from rebel groups, broke up last month without significant progress.

Syria’s opposition is hopeful of a return to the Geneva talks if a US-Russian deal on reviving the failed truce is swiftly implemented, a member of Syria’s opposition High Negotiations Committee said on Monday.
