Qantar, a member of Lebanon’s Druze community and sentenced to life in prison in Israel in 1979 for participating in the murder of an Israeli police officer and two civilians, was held for nearly 30 years – the longest of any Lebanese citizen in Israeli jails – until he was exchanged in a 2008 prisoner swap between Hezbollah and Israel.

Bayern next faces last season’s runner-up Juventus in the last 16, with the first leg on February 23. In the meantime there is sure to be plenty of speculation over what his next move will be.
Also killed in the attack, according to pro-government websites, was Farhan al-Sha’alan, a leader of the Syrian Resistance in the Golan, a group affiliated with Hezbollah.

The plan is for a new trilogy, but Daniels wouldn’t say if he’ll be in the next two instalments. Security will be tight, with several streets blocked to traffic and extra police on patrol.
He also killed a policeman during the attack, and is alleged to have beaten the four-year-old to death with a rifle butt.
Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah was due to speak on Monday evening as both supporters of the group and Syrian loyalist groups said the death of Qantar would be avenged and not be in vain.
When asked about Israeli involvement, Construction and Housing Minister Yoav Gallant told Israel Radio: “I am not confirming or denying anything to do with this matter”.
Syrian state television, quoting official sources, said Kantar was killed in a “terror attack”, without elaborating on who was behind the assault.

Haran’s wife, Smadar, accidentally suffocated their two-year-old daughter Yael to death while attempting to quiet her whimpering, which would have revealed their hiding place.
Syrian president Bashar Assad awarded him the country’s highest medal during a trip he made to Damascus that year.
Hezbollah reported Kantar’s killing but did not immediately vow revenge for his killing, as it did for Mughniyeh’s killing.
That limited level of retaliation could be the blueprint by which Hezbollah operates, particularly as the group battles to keep the Assad regime afloat in the Syrian civil war. Around ten days later, Hezbollah militants fired a salvo of missiles at an Israeli military convoy in a disputed border area, killing two soldiers and triggering deadly clashes that marked the most serious escalation since the 2006 war. The IDF informed UNIFIL that two rockets had impacted in northern Israel, and a third fell in the sea.
Yuval Steinitz, Israel’s minister for infrastructure, would not comment on the reports but said Kuntar was “no small villain” and he doubted “anyone would be sorry” if accounts of his demise were accurate.
The Russian Defense Ministry declined comment on the airstrike.

An Israeli military official, speaking on condition of anonymity under briefing guidelines, said Hezbollah has a limited presence on the Syrian side of the Golan Heights, and its efforts there have been focused primarily on aiding Assad’s forces against the advances of various rebel groups. No one claimed responsibility for the rocket attacks.
