Moreover, the highway is the main supply route for the Syrian government army in the city of Aleppo. The so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitoring group confirmed the report, according to Reuters.
The road is the army’s supply route to government-held western parts of Aleppo, home to around 2 million people.
Before the civil war in Syria broke out in 2011, Aleppo was the country’s most populous city.
It said the road would reopen to civilian traffic from November 5.

Areas around Aleppo have seen weeks of heavy fighting after Syrian troops backed by Lebanese Hezbollah and Iranian fighters launched an offensive to retake territory around Aleppo from rebels and jihadist fighters.
The road was cut by the Islamic State south of Khanasser despite Russian air support for government troops.

Another key target for the Assad regime is the Kweires military airport east of Aleppo, which has been under siege by IS and other insurgents. So far, government troops have focused their efforts on areas around Aleppo rather than the city itself.
