Syrian army secures road to Aleppo
Pro-government forces have recently stepped up attacks on rebel-held Aleppo, after regaining control this week of a major artery in the city’s south, which rebel forces had taken last month.

The ongoing battle for Aleppo is seen as decisive for Syria’s fate. It has been a focal point of clashes between the Syrian army and rebels.
A day earlier, activists accused the Syrian army of using chlorine gas against the Sukkary neighborhood in Aleppo, adding that civilians suffered from suffocations and breathing difficulties.
The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), a leading chemical watchdog group, announced Thursday that it will investigate chlorine gas attacks on civilians by Syrian government forces in Aleppo.
The army troops and Resistance Forces advanced on Ramouseh from three fronts and managed to lay a siege on the rebel-held districts in Aleppo.
The Syrian Civil Defense, a rescue workers group, said government helicopters dropped barrel bombs containing chlorine.

However, observers said the Syrian military’s campaign also aims to recapture areas in the northern and southern countryside of Aleppo in the face of Turkey’s perceived attempts to establish a safe zone in northern Syria.
