Video of a small boy, bloodied and covered in dust, who was rescued after an apparent air strike in the Syrian city of Aleppo, sparked outrage and concern on social media on Thursday.

After the image of a dazed 5-year-old Syrian boy dug out of the rubble of his Russian-bombed home shocked the world, Vladimir Putin’s Russia announced a cease-fire, at least for now.

“The Russian planes operating in Syria never work on targets that are inside settled areas”, the Russian Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said.

Omran was discharged from hospital after a few hours of being rescued.

The video of Omran and other children being pulled from the rubble caused widespread upset and condemnation over the harrowing reality of Syria’s five-year-old civil war.

An unidentified witness in Aleppo quoted by Reuters news agency said Ali Daqneesh had suffered internal bleeding and organ damage after the 17 August bombing.

“I’ve seen so many children rescued out of the rubble, but this child, with his innocence, he had no clue what was going on”, Sarout said.

But now when we speak to parents inside Aleppo and other besieged cities in Syria, they tell us it’s not a choice any more.

“He was in critical condition for the past three days and passed away this morning”, Saddiq said. They show us the places where bombs were targeted and the tragedy behind the families left over after this incident.

Video of a rescue worker carrying Omran from the faltering building and placing him in the back of the ambulance went viral shortly after the blast.

According to Associate Press, the airstrike in Aleppo may have come either Syrian or Russian forces, and eight people died including five children.

Activists living in opposition areas rely on informants in government-controlled Latakia province to warn residents of impending airstrikes.

A nurse who treated Omran said “he was in a daze”.

“Ali was operated on the day of the strike. he was stable yesterday but today his health deteriorated and we lost him”, said Raslan.
