Syrian civilians killed in US-led airstrikes within 24 hours

In a related development Tuesday, three civilians were killed and more than a dozen injured in airstrikes carried out in the opposition-held village of Kafr al-Hamra in Syria’s northwestern Aleppo province, local civil defense officials told Anadolu Agency on condition of anonymity due to fears for their safety.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said top trainers from among Ahrar al Sham’s leaders were normally at the camp located in the Sheikh Bahar area of rural Idlib.

Idlib city and the province by the same name is a stronghold of rebel groups including the al Qaeda-linked Nusra Front.

According to Observatory figures, Russian air strikes have killed more than 2,000 civilians since Moscow began military support of President Bashar al-Assad last September.

Russian Federation denies having any hand in the recent strikes in the Idlib province of Syria that left at least 23 people dead, including seven children.

“No combat missions, let alone delivering airstrikes, have been performed by the Russian Air Force in Idlib province”, stressed Konashenkov.

According to the USA, they are “working closely” with the Russians to determine who was responsible.

Idlib is held by several militant groups, including al-Qaida’s branch in Syria known as the Nusra Front.

The U.N. -backed February 27 cessation of hostilities agreement was meant to allow an opportunity for peace talks and delivery of humanitarian relief across Syria.

The Turkish-backed Islamist group claimed responsibility over the weekend for the May 23 bombings in Syria’s Latakia province, originally attributed to Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL).

Russian Federation has been carrying the airstrikes since September in support of its Damascus ally.

The US has ignored protests from its North Atlantic Treaty Organisation ally Turkey to back the SDF, an alliance of Kurdish and Arab fighters it regards as the most effective force on the ground against IS in Syria. A recent estimate by the Syrian Centre for Policy Research says that 470,000 people have been either directly or indirectly killed by the war.
