Syrian fighters call in US air strikes against IS

Jordan has followed suit, reacting to the brutal execution of one of its pilots by ISIS and in a show of solidarity with their Saudi ally.

Officials reported details of the latest strikes, noting that assessments of results are based on initial reports. Qatar is flying patrols over Syria, but its role has been modest.

It’s a bit depressing when what could have been a positive move forward to help thousands of citizens has so much unsaid backstory to it. It is frustrating to see how the USA has no boundaries as they decide to work alongside another terrorist group that many argue is just as bad as ISIS.

Nevertheless, the Arab allies insist they are still playing a pivotal military role in the offensive, even if it is less active.

“Jordan’s commitment to this fight is unwavering”, Dana Zureikat Daoud, a spokeswoman for the Jordanian Embassy in Washington, told the Times.

The engagement of Western allies such as France and Australia has also been limited.

“In Syria, coalition military forces conducted nine strikes using bomber, fighter, and attack aircraft”, the release said. “By putting a few “skin in the game” on the ground in Syria, Washington may be able to make a credible pitch to regional powers to provide the ground combat components that can sweep IS from Syria, thereby tilting the fight in Iraq in a favorable direction”.

“It wasn’t [Wheeler’s] mission to conduct the assault; it was his mission to support the assault”.

Beginning in September, Russian Federation has directly intervened in the war in Syria, deploying thousands of fighters and carrying out airstrikes, which have overwhelmingly targeted US-backed anti-Assad rebels. But the revamped effort is already facing challenges.

On Saturday, he declared, “I am convinced that neither the United States nor Russian Federation of course want any kind of slide into a so-called proxy war”. He also noted that the sheer number of air strikes was less of an indicator than the targets hit and the number of weapons used.

That’s why the Arabs will fight Islamic State to the last American. “When we think it’s right to do so, when we think we have a consensus, we will go to the House of Commons”. “They’ve got bilateral relationships in the gulf that are old and have been cultivated in order for them to deploy”.

They say the CIA-trained militants are under Russian strikes with little prospect of rescue by their American supporters. Yet the president waited until August 2014 to begin striking ISIS targets inside Iraq.

Defence Secretary Michael Fallon has said it is “morally indefensible” for Britain to rely on other countries to tackle the so-called Islamic State in Syria. “It’s not one building in Raqqa or somewhere else”, she said.

This was despite reports David Cameron had abandoned hopes of getting parliamentary approval for the action due to Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn’s opposition and scepticism among his own Tory backbenchers, who have been spooked by Russia’s recent decision to launch its own action.
